Halloween 2022
This year for Halloween I decided to go with a them instead of random decorations. Welcome to the Headless Saloon!

Meanwhile lets just say that we are proud Steve contributed a whooping 37 entries.
This year for Halloween I decided to go with a them instead of random decorations. Welcome to the Headless Saloon!
There is a little website in our neighborhood where people post random news and events. The other day someone posted that they are trying to get rid of a bunch of wood that they somehow recovered from a restaurant that had been demolished. I grabbed it and went to work!
A few months again my wife and I binged watched the show Brigerton on Netflix. I was fascinated by the strategy of trying to find a worthwhile suitor. I thought that this kind of epic battle seemed like it would make a great game!
Here’s a super-simple project to get the maximum space out of a kitchen drawer. These dividers took me about an hour to complete, and now my utensil drawer has plenty of room for those longer items!
Last Friday was another Daddy-Daughter Adventure Day! Together we took a hike to the Cave of Munits.
I have never enjoyed exercising in a gym-type environment. But lately I’ve been exercising at home with Peloton classes, and I’ve really stuck with it.
Check out this little sewing room kit I put together over the past few weeks.
Fall came late this year, but my daughter could not resist raking up a big pile of leaves and jumping right in!
This year for the holidays Ragon had an idea to give out some trays to friends and family. Due to the COVID pandemic we can’t visit with people in person, but she thought it would be nice to leave a tray with some goodies on people’s doorsteps, which I thought was a great idea. While she got some nice jars of jellies and baked goods, I went to work creating the actual trays.
The holidays are almost here, and the family and I have completed our 2020 Holiday Card! Let’s face it, this year was a challenge for most people. From record-setting wildfires here in California, the ongoing climate crisis, a nail-biting election, social distancing, protests over racial injustice, and of course the COVID-19 pandemic.
The kitchen table is usually a mess, and I needed something to do. Sounds like the perfect combination for a weekend project!
We have been stuck at home now for about 7 months due to the COVID pandemic, so we’ve been playing a lot of games. I’m starting to go a little stir crazy, so my wife suggested I needed a project. I thought about it for a while and decided I wanted to make a gaming table! I’ve always wanted a nice, modular table that could handle board games and role playing games. And of course it had to have cup holders.
My daughter and I boarded a boat at the Ventura Harbor and journeyed to Anacapa Island for day of hiking and exploring.
My daughter and I had a fun weekend creating this video! I shot this whole thing with my phone camera, and edited it together in the amazing and free Davinci Resolve editor. This was almost all with a green screen background, and Alice and I had a fun time doing it.
Time to break out the green screen while we are quarantining at home! Alice and I made this fun little video together over the weekend!
I don’t think I want to know the cat that doesn’t want a tall kitty scratching post/condo thing to climb on and play in.
After our home addition project a few years ago, our air conditioning unit was just left sitting exposed in the back of the house. Being so close to the pond and playing area it was kind of an eyesore, so I built this little privacy wall to hide it.
Our old outdoor dining table was an old, metal and glass hand-me-down – and it was falling apart. So I decided to build a new one. Seemed like a fun project, and it was!
I converted a not-very-useful closet to a much-more-useful space by converting it into a mudroom area, with a bench, lots of storage, and coat hooks.
I’ve been back in LA for about a week now and I thought I would take a moment to write a final post to create […]
I’m writing this post a bit early today. It’s only 3pm, and right now I’m occupying a little corner of the Dunkin’ Donuts in Newark. Free wi-fi and awesome donuts! I wish we had these in Los Angeles – these donuts are delightful.

After my last entry last night, I was all cuddled up and ready to fall asleep in my tent. I was the only person in the park at Lock 20. I was looking forward to a good night’s rest. It didn’t happen!

This 3-tier outdoor planter can be created in a weekend with basic materials. But it looks great and can hold a lot of little succulents or herbs.
