My daughter is going through a big horse phase right now, so I decided to make her a stable for her toy horses. And like all my projects, it ended up being a lot harder than I thought!

I think the problem is that I don’t put any planning into what I’m going to build! In this case I knew I wanted 10 stalls, so I started building 10 stalls. I gave no thought to how I would do the doors, and paint it, or assemble it.

My first step was to cut some thin plywood and just started putting it together. I added some wood dowels as posts between each stall, and tried to sandwich them between popsicle sticks. This turned into a big mess with lots of glue, crooked posts, and dowels that are all kind of lopsided! She requested some hooks to hang the horse’s tack and bridles, so I screwed in some extra hooks I had.

The doors were tough. I ended up getting some small eye screws and using those as hinges, and then putting them through wooden dowels. They work surprisingly well. I used a ton of wood glue. Hoping it continues to hold everything.

Luckily my end user is an 8-year  old who thinks the whole thing looks amazing. 🙂
