The only magazine I still have an active subscription with is Family Handyman. I enjoy it because in between all the ads they have some fun tips and project ideas. While some of the projects are quite large in scope (like a recent entry featuring instructions on how to build a huge outdoor entertainment room) there are plenty of others that are more conducive to completing in a weekend.
In the latest issue they had a bunch of ideas on how to get the most out of kitchen drawers. They had descriptions on all kinds of ways to tweak existing drawers (like how to make a double drawer where the top part of the drawer slides over the lower part of the drawer). But one of the simple ideas that caught my eye was the use of diagonal dividers. It seemed simple and intriguing so I gave it a try.
I created four dividers using some scrap wood I had left over. I sanded and put on a coat of lacquer, and then just glued them into place. The whole thing project took about an hour – super easy. And now the drawer seems to have a lot more room for some reason!
